Breaking: The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is officially the quickest merc ever

Mercedes-AMG introduced the GT lineup back in September 2014. Back then, the coupe came with the same 4.0-liter biturbo hand-crafted V8 engine, which generated 456 horsepower (462 metric horsepower) in the GT and 503 horsepower (510 metric horsepower) in the range-topping GT S.Things have changed over the past decade, and now we are getting the first plug-in hybrid AMG coupe, inspired by Formula 1 and developed in Affalterbach. The model comes with the same 4.0-liter V8, this time generating 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, but with a twist: electrification.

The permanently excited synchronous electric motor, with an electrically shifted two-speed transmission, mounted on the rear axle, brings along 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque for a total of 805 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque.

These are the numbers that make the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance flash from zero to hero (0-60 mph or 0 to 97 kph) in 2.7 seconds, which positions it as the quickest series production AMG model ever to see the light of day. The S E Performance 4-Door Coupe does the same run in 2.9 seconds.

The needle of the speedometer goes all the way to 199 mph. It is the goosebumps kind of car, Michael Scheme, CEO of Mercedes-AMG, explains.

The model is equipped with a lithium-ion 6.1-kWh battery pack, installed above the rear axle, sporting an innovative cooling system. There is no EPA-estimated range for electric power alone and the charging times have so far remained undisclosed. What we do know is that charging takes place via the vehicle’s 3.7 kW onboard AC charger at a charging station, wallbox, or household socket.

The driver can select one of the four levels of brake-energy regeneration, sending back into the battery pack up to 100 kW. The highest level of recuperation allows for one-pedal driving, a behavior similar to what the all-electric cars can offer.

Carbon-ceramic rotors with six-piston calipers up front and single-piston calipers at the rear provide the stopping power. Their lightweight construction manages to save additional weight.

The performance coupe is equipped as standard with rear-wheel steering for simplified maneuvering in tight spaces, while the AMG Active Ride Control makes it easier to handle. Also standard is the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive.

Packed with active aerodynamic elements, the model sports a retractable rear spoiler, seamlessly integrated into the trunk lid, that automatically adjusts to one of the five angles available at speeds above 50 mph, depending on the driving mode, which can be selected via the AMG Dynamic Select. Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Race, and Individual are on the menu.

The Comfort program also includes the Silent Mode, the one in which the car starts. An icon that reads “Ready” shows up on the instrument cluster to indicate that the car is ready to drive. Meanwhile, the onboard speakers do the trick: they play the sound of the V8 in the cabin.

Furthermore, the GT can sit 1.6 inches closer to the ground at speeds over 50 mph. This creates a Venturi effect, which sucks the car onto the road while reducing front axle lift.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance rides on aerodynamically optimized 20-inch wheels in Tantalum Grey, with tires measuring 295/35 R20 at the front and 305/35 R20 at the rear, while 21-inch wheels are also available at an extra cost. The S E Performance coupe is instantly recognizable once it sets wheels on the road. There is an integrated charging port door for the hybrid system at the rear. The “GT 63 S” model badge will show up in red, while there will be twin trapezoidal tailpipes out back. An “E Performance” logo will be on each of the front fenders.

The cabin highlights the athletic nature of the model. There are standard power-adjustable AMG sports seats on board with a high level of lateral support. However, customers can go for the optional AMG performance seats with integrated headrests and ventilation openings in the backrests. Three massage programs are available.

Future owners will find it hard to choose just one option from the high number of Nappa leather variants. Manufaktur Nappa leather upholstery with diamond stitching or Nappa leather and microfiber with contrasting stitching in red or yellow are also available.

Occupants will also benefit from the presence of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) futuristic infotainment system with AMG Performance exclusive menu.Mercedes has not disclosed any pricing details yet, but that is probably going to happen closer to the market launch, later this year. It should, however, be the most expensive of the GT Coupe lineup until the S version arrives as a 2026 model.
